Happy Thanksgiving family and friends!

The 2 weeks before our Thanksgiving break, we learned about some of the first Native Americans, the Pilgrims, and how they joined together on the first Thanksgiving.  Just like the Pilgrims and Native Americans on that Thanksgiving, we worked together and made an Indian village, prepared songs, a poem, a readers' theater, Pilgrims' stew, and to get our room ready for our Parents, Caregivers, and friends to come join us!

We had a wonderful celebration!  Thank you all for coming and helping make this a fabulous day!

Veterans' Day Celebration

Tuesday, November 13, we had a Rise 'n Shine to honor our Veterans and current servicemen and women.   A highly decorated Veteran was the speaker and the second grade classes sang I'm Proud To Be An American.  It was a very moving tribute!

My precious firsties wrote letters to the heros that have risked their lives to give us the freedom we enjoy every day!  Here are a few examples of these little heartfelt notes.

Mock Election

On Election Day we held a mock election for President of the United States!  The kiddos were very familiar with the two candidates running for president!  We discussed how we "vote" for things all the time.  Sometimes we vote for things like the movie we want to watch, which restaurant we want to eat at, our favorite candy, etc.  These are little votes, but voting for the President of the United states is a very BIG vote!  Each child marked a ballot with the candidate of their choice, folded it in half, and dropped it in our ballot box.

As I opened each vote and read them aloud, we graphed them and discussed the results.  Here's how our class vote came out!

First Day Jitters!

First Day Jitters!

On the first day of school we read First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg.  We discussed how we were feeling on the first day of a new class, with new faces, a new teacher, and a new classroom! Then we learned the poem Jitter Juice and did some fun activities by Abby Mullins of http://www.theinspiredapple.blogspot.com/.  We made Jitter Juice, enjoyed a cup and had lots of giggles, as it fizzed all our jitters away!

Let the learning begin! AND the fun too!

I can't believe it is time to begin another fun filled year of learning with a brand new group of firsties!  We have lots of new things going on this year and tons of new  things to learn, so let's hit the ground running!

Welcome to your new FIRST GRADE classroom all my lil' sweeties!

I cannot believe how quickly this year has flown by.  I have truly grown to love and adore each and every one of my little angels.  They really are like a tiny seed that has been sown, watered, given light, nurtured, and some painful weeds pulled out along the way.  The growth is amazing and watching each precious little vine sprout up and blossom has been a wonderful joy and privilege!

Boys and Girls, Always remember to wonder and explore! Never stop learning and asking questions!

Parents/Caregivers, Thank you for sharing your little firsties with me this year.  I will miss their sweet little smiles!
Love, Mrs. Gregory

What a year!

For President's Day we've been learning about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.  We read some Non-Fiction books about their lives and made a chart with facts about both presidents.  The kiddos got to choose a fact to write and then ask a "Did you know?" question about the president they chose.  These published pages turned out great!  They really seemed to love making the silhouette cameo of the president they wrote about.  Here are a few examples:
