Well I have been sooooooooooooooo busy, that I haven't posted anything since September! I will be slowly adding things from Apple Day, Teddy Bear Day, Spiders, Pumpkins, and The Thanksgiving Feast! See how behind I am??!! It's still very new for me and I tend to get a bit distracted and even overwhelmed, but I'll get it updated as soon as I can. Thanks for being patient with me. We've been busy, busy, busy!
Oh boy, have we been busy! Ask your little angel about The Daily 5. We have been working so hard to build our stamina as we do Read to Self, Work on Writing, Word Work, and Listen to Reading. We are doing such a great job at working quietly and independently, as we become better readers and writers!
We are learning so many things in math! Our Calendar Buddy (Thank you Cara Carroll of First Grade Parade!) is helping us get so good at lots of different math skills like; place value, odd & even, tallies, telling time to the hour, coins, patterns, etc. We are learning how to make addition sentences with addends and a sum (parts & a whole)! We know the definition of words like plus, addition, equal, solve, and congruent!
So far in language arts, we’ve learned about naming words (nouns), action words (verbs), and describing words (adjectives)! We know what you need to make a sentence and we’ve been editing them to “fix” the stuff that isn’t right.
Please read every night with your sweet first grader and help them practice their spelling words, popcorn words (sight words), and math skills like skip-counting by 5’s and 10’s, recognizing coins, knowing their value, and telling time to the hour.
I’m absolutely lovin’ this beautiful Fall weather! It’s such a nice change from the super hot summer we just had. It really gets me excited about all things fall (especially APPLES!). And in honor of John Chapman (AKA Johnny Appleseed’s) birthday today, we kicked off apple week by reading a story about his life.
Wow! There’s so much to learn and to do in first grade, and believe me…we’re just getting started! I’ll be posting pictures from our Rainbow Day and Teddy Bear Day very soon.
Happy Fall Ya’ll!

classroom pics
Hi there sweet friends! I’m posting a picture collage of our classroom (even though I’ve added a few things and changed some things around since the pics were taken…) but at least you’ll have an idea how things look in our little first grade world! More pictures coming soon! Bear with me because I’m a real newbie on this thing and learning as I go!
Have a fabulous Labor Day Weekend!

We're off and running!
Well first grade is off to a wonderful start! We have been reviewing letter sounds, vowels, shapes, color words, numbers, number words, counting by 1’s and 10’s, and so much more! We’ve been reading Junie B. Jones and the kiddos love waiting to see what kind of trouble she’ll get into next! We are having so much fun making new friends and learning to work together as a community of learners!
We’ve had Purple Cow Day and Watermelon Day, and what fun we’ve had! We made a Purple cow out of shapes, drank Purple Cow juice, made predictions about our watermelon’s height, length, circumference, and if it would sink or float. Then we experimented and measured to find out the results and enjoyed the yummy watermelon! (Thanks Mrs. Sloan!)
There’s lots more to do this year, and it’s so rewarding to see your little angels blossom as we learn and grow together in first grade.
See you soon!

Welcome to my First Grade Class!
Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career! First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This is a year of important transitions and learning new skills is accelerated. It will be exciting, demanding, and fulfilling!
During First Grade, your child will learn how to read, write stories, add, subtract, and so much more. They will be encouraged to flourish in a safe and engaging environment. I consider it a privilege to teach at Glenpool Elementary, and I will do my best to structure our classroom so that each child can achieve their highest potential. I promise to provide stimulating educational experiences to help them blossom academically, socially, and emotionally, in a safe, nurturing environment.. It is your responsibility to have your child arrive at school on time, ready, and able to learn. A happy, well-rested child is better prepared to meet the exciting challenges of school each day.
Read to your child or have your child read to you as often as possible. Help your child with any homework they may have each night. Share your child’s experiences of the day, including daily notices and work found in their Bear Binder. Let your child know that his/her new learning is exciting and wonderful! Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem. This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of their work and this private sharing time will be very rewarding!
Thank you for entrusting your child to my care, I accept this responsibility with great commitment, dedication, and joy! I look forward to teaching your child this year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gregory
